Beverly Wilkinson Schwarzkopf Obituary

Beverly Anne Wilkinson Schwarzkopf (“Bev”), 79, of Oklahoma City passed away April 26 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

She was born in 1944 to Mary Anna and Allen Wilkinson in Greensboro, NC and attended Emory University where she met her husband George Schwarzkopf (d. 1989). For many years she taught high school English and specifically helped pregnant and parenting teens earn their high school diplomas through the Margaret Hudson Program in Broken Arrow.

Beverly had a passion for travel, having visited all 50 U.S. states and many countries in her lifetime, but her favorite destination was visiting the North Carolina coast with her sister and friends. She was an active duty army spouse from 1966 through 1979, living in several postings in the United States from Georgia to Alaska as well as several years in West Germany.  After George left active duty service she settled in Oklahoma with her family and made northeast Oklahoma her home.

She was an avid reader, often reading several books at one time. She loved baking, writing letters, and playing board games with her grandchildren. She often won those games but gave them the winnings regardless. She was active in Epsilon Sigma Alpha, an organization committed to volunteering, friendship and giving, and had many cherished friends through this group.

Beverly is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Maleta Griffin and Woody Griffin of Lake Junaluska, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Schwarzkopf and Patricia Thornton, of Ft. Lauderdale FL, and her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Thurston and Tad Thurston, of Oklahoma City, OK; also her 3 grandchildren, Cameron Clark of Norman, OK, Riley Clark of Austin, TX, and TJ Brumley of Oklahoma City, OK.

A remembrance service will be held at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, OK, on May 18 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) Alpha Rho Chapter Broken Arrow or St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Beverly Wilkinson (Schwarzkopf) passed away April 26, 2024 in Oklahoma City from complications associated with Parkinson's Disease.  She was a close friend and neighbor to many in our class.

The following was posted by her son, Robert Schwarzkopf:

"It is with a heavy heart that I am posting the passing of my beloved mother Bev Schwarzkopf. She passed peacefully with her daughter Jennifer Thurston at her side. She was the best mother and gramba anyone could ask for and will be missed.

Tentatively the family is planning a celebration of life in the Broken Arrow area in the next weeks."

Additional information will be added as available.

May she rest in peace.
