Oh man, I remember Jake was my working mate on the left side of our offensive line. I had to keep him sharp on our plays. He was a tough tackle! I remember well a terrible officials call in a playoff game in Raleigh. We were on about the 2 yard line, ready to score and they called him for a false start. He never moved a muscle! We could have tied the score at halftime but didn't. Jake was a good guy. I'm sure he was a great father.

Jake played football in Jr.High, I think it was Gillispie. I was playing for Lindley Jr. and we got word about how big Jake was. We heard they had to give him pills to stop him from growing so much. He carried the ball one time, drug four players into the end zone trying to stop him. In High School, Cameron is right, he was tough to play against. At practice one time, I was set to block him and he did the forearm shiver, hit me right in the Adams Apple, thought I was going to die gasping for air. Jake came over to tell me he was sorry, that was the gentle giant! RIP!
